I am 25 years old and was diagnosed with hyperadrenergic POTS in May 2023, with symptoms suspected to having first appeared around the age of ≈ 10. In 2017, I sought medical help for my increasingly overpowering symptoms, which initiated a series of psychiatric **misdiagnoses**. I underwent 12 different sets of psychopharmacological medications and tried numerous psychotherapeutic approaches, all to no avail.
Throughout the years, I experienced **cycles of symptom regression and relapse**, allowing me to maintain some semblance of a normal life during remissions. However, each relapse grew longer and more intense.
By late 2021, I found myself in the longest and **most debilitating relapse to date**. Simple tasks like standing up became arduous due to a myriad of symptoms. I could no longer engage in my daily routines, let alone work or pursue academic and social activities.
After a year of unsuccessful attempts to treat the misdiagnoses, I stumbled upon a psychiatrist who suspected POTS and ordered a HUT (tilt-table) test. Despite a frustrating encounter with a cardiologist who initially promised a HUT test but later **dismissed my concerns**, I traveled to another country to undergo the necessary testing. A few months later, the results indicated a 'tendency' for POTS.
Upon returning home, I sought out a neurologist specializing in the field, only to discover that even he was initially stumped. Fortunately, the neurologist referred me to a colleague who **confirmed the diagnosis of hyperadrenergic POTS** in May 2023.
Since then, I've been having **biweekly appointments** with him, receiving prescriptions for **off-brand medications** used in POTS treatment. While the success has been modest, it's nonetheless a step forward.
###### Website
Given the relative obscurity of this condition, I've taken it upon myself to delve into the research papers directly and compile a **collection of citations related to POTS** to have a **personal reference**. Upon my doctor's request, I've decided to make this collection public, hoping it may benefit others who are interested in this project.
###### Workflow
I review research papers I've collected on **Zotero** (reference management software), import the annotations into **Obsidian** (personal knowledge base and note-taking software), sort them into their respective place in a structured table of contents and then publish the entire collection via **Obsidian Publish**.
###### Advantages
The neat thing about using Obsidian Publish for this project, is that you can **preview** the referenced annotation simply **by hovering** over it.
